The SA Climate Change Champs invites Climate Club youth members with innovative green economy solutions to enter the 2024 Green Opportunities Challenge. Entries are open from 6 March 2024, and close on 23 March 2024. The digital entry form is online and available by clicking here
This competition follows the 2023 Renewable Energy Challenge which was launched last year and inspired the youth to imagine how the use of renewable energy can power up communities. This year, the Green Opportunities Challenge has a focus on a transition to a green economy by empowering youth to imagine how green solutions can be used to create opportunities for their communities.
The challenge is open to Grade 9 – 12 learners at Climate Club host schools in the Eastern, Northern and Western Cape and entry applications run from 6 March 2024 until 23 March 2024. This will be followed by a regional judging round in April, where regional finalist will progress to the national final soon after where the winners stand a chance to win exciting prizes.
Participants will be given the opportunity to showcase their artistic and technical abilities with the focus on the green economy and just transition. Here, learners are encouraged to think of a problem affecting their homes, schools and broader communities and develop a green solution that can address these issues.
To do this, participants will present a project which highlights an opportunity in one of the green economy sectors, which covers the four categories, and then select a method to demonstrate their green solution.
There are four (4) categories for entering:
- Agriculture
- Energy
- Waste
- Water
Entries will be accepted as:
- Graphic or comic novel
- Technical model
- Visual arts or poster
- Video storytelling
